Under the New Roads and Street Works Act (1991) and The Street Works (Registers, Notices, Directions and Designations) (England) Regulations 2007 local authorities have a duty to co-ordinate street works, and undertakers (mostly utilities) have a duty to give notice of their intended (non-emergency) works, with traffic management plans, up to 3 months in advance.

NRSWA (New Roads & Street Works Act) Operatives Course
This course covers the procedures and guidelines for working on roads and highways. The training and qualifications are targeted at those who are either employed by local authorities, utilities companies or contractors and are required to carry out work on roads, highways or on footpaths. It is absolutely essential that those who are working on public highways or even adjacent to them should take the relevant training courses and achieve the required level of competence.
NRSWA (New Roads & Street Works Act) Operatives Re-Assessment Course
Delegates who wish to undertake this training MUST ensure their current card is within the scheme renewal guidelines which are 6 months prior or 6 months after the expiry date. It is strongly recommended that delegates complete their training within a 4 month timescale, as the 6 month expiry is inclusive of the potential 8 weeks card processing period. Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in the delegate having to sit the full 5 day course again.

NRSWA (New Roads & Street Works Act) Supervisor Re-Assessment Course

NRSWA Unit 1 Signing, Lighting and Guarding
Once completed the NRSWA Unit 1 course, sucessful candidates will be certified to set out of traffic lights, signs, cones and barriers in compliance with NRSWA. This course is designed for all personnel employed by Local Authorities, Utilities and their contractors for the purpose of any road works in, on or around the highway.
NRSWA Unit S1 Signing, Lighting and Guarding
Once completed the NRSWA Unit S1 course, sucessful candidates are certified to supervise the setting out of traffic lights, signs, cones and barriers in compliance with the NRSW Act. Assessment is carried out during the course and delegates are also required to complete a question paper. Delegates must also provide evidence from the work place where the assessment is carried out on a simulated site.
* Please note that this course does not certify candidates to undertake the setting out of signing, lighting and guarding. In order to qualify for this students must successfully pass the operative NRSWA Unit 1. *
