CISRS Construction Operatives Training Course (COTS)

Overview

This CISRS COTS training course been created to give labourers, operatives and those starting out in the scaffolding industry the skills and knowledge required to work safely with scaffolding and access equipment.

On this 1 day CISRS course, you’ll learn the basics of scaffolding and general site safety, as well as an understanding of what your responsibilities are. You’ll gain knowledge of scaffolding equipment, working safely at height and how to report any health and safety issues.

Please note: to attend this course, you must have passed one of the below pre-requisites within the last 2 years.

Objectives

By the end of this 1-day CISRS course, you will:

  • Have a good understanding of the scaffolding industry
  • Identify the key features of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Be able to demonstrate your general responsibilities on a work site
  • Gain knowledge of scaffolding uses, components and terminology
  • Understand how, when and why to service scaffold equipment

Agenda

This CISRS COTS course covers the following topics:

  • Your responsibilities as a trainee scaffolder or labourer
  • Scaffolding: the basics
  • Understanding scaffolding equipment, tube, fittings and boards
  • Platform quality control – boards and stock
  • Health and hygiene on site
  • General welfare and housekeeping
  • Electrical safety
  • Fire in the workplace: prevention and control
  • Working with noise and vibration
  • Key safety measures for working at height
  • Slips, trips and falls – how to prevent accidents
  • Reporting incidents and accidents
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • On-site transport safety (manoeuvring, loading and unloading)
  • Scaffolding equipment and tools
  • Manual handling
  • Rope and wheel lifting equipment
  • Examination

Assessment

At the end of this one-day training course, you will be expected to pass a multiple-choice exam in order to gain your CISRS Certificate of training.

On successful completion of the course, you will be able to apply for a CISRS Scaffolding Labourer Green Card.

Who Should Attend?

This CISRS course is for workers who are new to the scaffolding industry, or those who would like to start a career in scaffolding. Existing CISRS Scaffolding Labourers (green card holders) also need to take this course every five years to refresh their knowledge and renew their card.

Prerequisites

In order to attend the course, delegates must provide evidence that they have completed one of the following within the last 2 years: -

  • CITB HS&E test
  • CCNSG Safety Passport / CCNSG LaTS
  • NEBOSH General/Construction/International Certificate
  • CITB H&S Awareness
  • CITB SMSTS
  • CITB SSSTS
  • FAS Safe Pass
  • IOSH Managing Safely / IOSH Working Safely / IOSH Directing Safely
  • Current offshore Survival Certificate (MIST/BOSIET/OPITO)

  • Will lunch be Included?

    The joining instructions will indicate if lunch is provided for the duration of your course.  Should you need to know prior to booking please contact one of our team who will be happy to advise.

  • Do I have to attend all days/sessions?

    Full attendance on all days, at the required times stated on your course joining instructions, is compulsory to successfully complete the course.

  • What time does my course start?

    Start and finish times are confirmed on your joining instructions which are issued 7 to 10 days prior to course commencement.  Failure to arrive at the requested time may result in the delegate being turned away.

  • Can I complete a name change on my booking?

    Yes, a name change can be completed free of charge providing the delegate being substituted has the required pre-requisites. You can submit your request by emailing our customer service team at training@easybooktraining.co.uk or calling on 01892 543000.

  • Why do I need to provide a pre-requisite?

    Pre-requisites are requested when the awarding body requires proof of a previous in date qualification or experience, to ensure delegates are eligible to attend. These guidelines are set policies which we are not able to amend.  If you do have any queries or are unable to provide sufficient evidence please contact our customer service team at your earliest convenience on 01892 543000.

  • What happens if I fail the course?

    If you should fail the course our customer service team will be in contact to discuss your options.  Our team will talk through the process to help you achieve the qualification required in the most effective way.
